2023 Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado 1500

The Ford F-150 can tow more than the Chevrolet Silverado can. When equipped properly the Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 pounds–the highest capacity in 2023 of any light duty pickup truck. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds when properly equipped. On the low end however the Silverado does tow a bit more than the F-150 as its towing capacity starts at 8,200 pounds while the Silverado starts at 9,500 pounds. The F-150 has a max payload capacity of 3,250 pounds while the Silverado maxes out at 2,280 pounds. This is quite possibly the most important factor when it comes to choosing the right truck, and the Ford F-150 outpaces most with the highest towing capacity in the half ton series.

The Ford F-150 gets better gas mileage than the Chevrolet Silverado. The F-150 hybrid outperforms quite a bit of the segment with 25 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The four cylinder Chevrolet Silverado gets 20 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. The 2.7 liter V6 F-150 gets 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, and upper level engines on the Ford F-150 generally outperform the Silverado by getting 2 mpg more. This is partly due to the fact that the Silverado has V-8 engines while the F-150 has V-6 engines. On top of the gas fed engines of the Ford Series, the Lightning is electric, and Chevrolet has not yet released their Silverado EV.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the equivalent to the Ford F-150. Both vehicles are half ton pickup trucks and have been competing against each other for decades now. They are two of the best-selling vehicles in the segment, with Ford F-150 being the best-selling pickup truck ever made, and Chevrolet Silverado following. The Ford F-150 is the nation’s most popular pickup truck, and more likely than not when you think of a pickup truck the Ford F-150 comes to mind before other trucks.
