The 2020 Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Impala are two sedans with comfort, tech, and safety on the agenda. Which should you choose? Our comparison guide takes a closer look at the midsize Fusion and full-size Impala. We’re here at Keystone Ford to help you choose a new car that you can love for years to come.
Modern Comfort: 2020 Ford Fusion
If you’re looking for a good road-tripper or carpooler, the Fusion is your sedan. Inside, five passengers enjoy plenty of room for legs, heads, hips, and elbows. Optional features, like dual-zone automatic climate control and heated-and-ventilated front seats, set you up for an even comfier cruise. From the driver’s seat, outward visibility is excellent, adding to your ride comfort and peace of mind.
As a full-size sedan, the Impala is indeed roomier than the Fusion, making it a great option for family hauling. And it, too, offers a little luxury, with options like leather upholstery and a sunroof. However, some of the Impala cabin materials look and feel low-rent. And, with the Impala’s thick roof pillars, visibility from the front seat is somewhat obstructed.
Street-Smart Tech: 2020 Ford Fusion
Here, the Fusion takes another healthy lead. The Sync 3 infotainment system, optional on the base model and standard on the other three trim models, is easy to use and gives you hands-free access to your smartphone with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The Fusion also comes standard with some important driver aids, such as forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
When it comes to connectivity, the 2020 Chevy Impala is an impressive competitor. This sedan also includes a savvy infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. However, if you want advanced safety features, you’re going to have to pay for them. The Impala’s collision prevention system is only available for the top trim model, where it’s optional equipment.
More in Power: 2020 Chevrolet Impala
The Chevy Impala’s sturdy V6 engine gives you 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque to speed away from green lights. This engine is standard on both trim models, so there’s no need to pay extra for a sporty performance.
With three engine options, the 2020 Ford Fusion lets shoppers balance the power they crave with the efficiency they require. The Fusion’s top-of-the-line engine is pretty quick (240 horses, 270 pound-feet), but it doesn’t give you as much power as the Impala V6. On the road, though, performance is composed and predictable, helping you get through highway rush-hour traffic.
Fuel Efficiency: 2020 Ford Fusion
While the Impala comes standard with more horsepower, the Fusion does a much better job of conserving fuel. Depending on powertrain and equipment, Ford’s midsize sedan earns up to 27 mpg combined (23 city/34 highway mpg). The 2020 Chevy Impala follows with up to 22 mpg combined (19/28 mpg).
The 2020 Chevrolet Impala is the more powerful of the pair, but the 2020 Ford Fusion has a lot more of what modern drivers love. Ford’s midsize sedan offers a thrifty commute, plenty of high-tech safety gear, and a smooth, comfy ride.
