The 2020 Ford EcoSport and Jeep Renegade have so much in common that, at first, you might be confused about which one to drive home. Both subcompact crossovers supply sporty performance, modern comfort, and savvy tech features. So what exactly is the difference between them? Keystone Ford’s comparison guide is here to help you learn more.
Lightweight Price Tag: 2020 Ford EcoSport
Want to save money on your brand new crossover? Start with the Ford EcoSport. Ford’s subcompact crossover comes with a starting MSRP of just $19,995. This means a potentially lower monthly payment compared to the Jeep Renegade, which starts at $22,375.
Infotainment Options: 2020 Ford EcoSport
Both of these sporty subcompact crossovers will keep you connected, no matter where you travel. But, with a few features you won’t find on the Renegade, the EcoSport has the edge.
For starters, the 2020 Ford EcoSport gives you the Sync 3 infotainment system (standard on the SE and up), which includes an easy-to-figure-out 8-inch touch-screen interface and complete smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. And every EcoSport comes standard with a Wi-Fi hotspot, so you can take a reliable connection with you out on the road. Ford’s little crossover also gives you two USB ports, which is one more than comes standard on the Renegade.
The Renegade—while it doesn’t offer a Wi-Fi hotspot or an extra UBS port for charging devices—does indeed give you a savvy infotainment system. Jeep’s Unconnect interface (standard on the midgrade Latitude and up) also includes a responsive touch screen and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
Efficient Performance: 2020 Ford EcoSport
Here, the 2020 EcoSport has a bit of an edge. With front-wheel drive, this little crossover is EPA-rated for 28 mpg combined (27 city/29 highway mpg). But the Renegade is only a little behind, earning up to 27 mpg combined (24/32 mpg), depending on powertrain configuration.
Off-Road-Readiness: 2020 Jeep Renegade
Among subcompact crossovers, the Renegade is the most capable. For best-in-class off-road performance, look to the Renegade Trailhawk trim model, which comes standard with everything you need for a rugged good time. Features include an upgraded engine, underbody skid plates, a raised suspension, all-terrain tires, and four-wheel drive with low-range settings.
The EcoSport is more of of pavement dweller. But it does offer all-wheel drive, optional performance gear that helps you keep a good grip on an icy Pennsylvania street. The EcoSport also offers its own performance trim model, the SES. Rather than off-road adventure, though, it gives you a quicker, sportier performance on the asphalt.
